The Assessment Process

Following on from the initial consultation and observational session of your child a formal assessment will be carried out. The ADOS-2 Assessment is administered. This is a semi structured standardised assessment which is designed to identify behaviours that are typically related to a diagnosis of Autism. This assessment is considered a gold standard instrument recommended in the current national guidelines.

Following the completion of the assessment, you will be offered a break whilst the clinicians discuss the information gathered and the ADOS-2 outcome. The information is then considered in line with the current ICD-11 and DSM-V criteria for autism spectrum disorder and a decision is usually reached regarding diagnosis.

The clinicians will then share the outcome of the assessment and provide an opportunity for discussion. This feedback session usually lasts around 45 minutes to an hour. We are also available for follow up questions if required. Your child can attend some or all of this session if appropriate. We are also available to answer questions from other professionals who support your child.
