This appointment offers the opportunity to discuss your thoughts and concerns and to explore whether your child’s profile may be indicative of a neurodevelopment condition which can be helpful when deciding whether to proceed with the full diagnostic assessment.
What to expect
Depending on the information gathered from the questionnaires there may be either one or two clinicians present during the appointment. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help prepare your young person for the appointment.
This option does not constitute a formal diagnosis. If you choose to proceed to the full assessment the fee from this appointment would be deducted from the total cost.
The Assessment Process
Your first appointment can take up to 60 – 90 minutes and you and your teenager will meet with 1 or 2 clinicians . The assessment process will be discussed and information on your current concerns will be gathered as well as a detailed developmental history and impact. Your child/young person can remain present for some or all of the appointment depending on what is appropriate.
We will offer you and your teenage child a short break whilst we consider the information gathered so far. We will then bring you back into the room to discuss the possible/recommended next steps. You are under no obligation to progress with further assessment if you do not wish to and the clinicians will also be clear and honest if we feel further assessment is not required.
Step 3
As a teenager, we understand it is important to hear their thoughts and opinions and we offer the space to do this whilst in the clinic.
If your teen is over the age of 16 years and have left school, we consider the assessment an adult process.
We consider a range of neurodevelopmental conditions during the initial consultation. The feedback you receive during your consultation should help you make an informed decision about the benefit of any further assessment(s).
Add a QBcheck to your assessment
You may want to consider opting to include the QBcheck to enhance your assessment. In certain cases, your practitioner may advise this assessment if your situation is complex.
This may be necessary to determine if you should proceed with a full assessment and/or confirm if you meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD.
